“My crown ain’t always straight, but it’s always shiny”

urgundi Allison is a graduate of both Morgan State University, and the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

She has made her home in Baltimore where she’s created and led programs for the city’s most marginalized youth. Currently, she works in philanthropy while mothering her two daughters, Cannyn and Darynn.

On March 26, 2020 Burgundi released her first book, Fish Bones and Bread Crumbs: A Guided Journal. This literary offering takes women on a spiritual journey to self insight, and knowing God more intimately. The focus is on the “divinity of femininity“, and the power of healing.

In her podcast Golds, Girls & God, she examines various topics and current events though the lenses of culture, femininity, and faith.

The pinnacle of Burgundi’s work is the Black Girl Divinity brand. Born out of the realization that magic is based in illusion, and that to appeal to the masses Black Women hide the reality of our vulnerabilities, Black Girl Divinity serves to remind us that we too are created in the image of God, making our femininity sanctified, and our Blackness uncompromised. The brand includes publishing, curated spiritual experiences, and merchandise.

“You are the woman that your experiences have made you. Your journey with God is the walk to unlearn you, know Him, and discover the woman He created you to be”

A Guided Journal

This Collection of writings is an ode to lessons learned, honoring the remnants of a faith walk that transformed a woman into a worshiper. Before a true relationship with God, a woman’s make is tethered to her experiences with man. This guided journal unravels one woman’s heart, revealing her truths, missteps, and victories through written reflections. Each reflection is followed by writing prompts that guide the reader’s own journey of selfdiscovery that breaks open the heart to make room for God.

“Women love to chant about self-love, but you can’t love who you don’t know. And if you consistently reject the grace of the lessons, you dishonor yourself. And there is no love where there is dishonor. And he sees this. It’s part of the reason he chose you. It’s the reason you have not changed your decision to be with him.”

Women’s Group

One of the greatest tragedies of oppression is the assault on Black Femininity. It has been replaced with a caricature of Black Womanhood dependent on illusion to survive. But we are done fighting pain. We are leaning into it, opening ourselves to the realization that our strength is in our vulnerability. That in undressing our wounds, we reveal our divinity. Black Girl Divinity is a community of Women about the business of healingour sisters and ourselves.

I learned from him that you cannot depend on someone else to make you happy. I came to understand that you cannot keep a boy (man) that does not want to be kept, and that if he can walk away from you- let him.

Programs >>Infants & Toddlers

As they engage in routines day after day, they collect, organize, and reorganize information about themselves, other people, and things. This understanding helps them make sense of the world.  We promote learning by offering a variety of experiences to the children in our care.  Our infants and toddlers are given the opportunity to play throughout the day.   During daily routines and experiences children have individual plans that help support their development.  Play offers them opportunities to make choices, solve problems, interact with one another, interact with their teacher, pursue interests, experience learning as fun and exciting, and experience themselves as capable, competent, successful learners.  Play also gives children the opportunity to build language and literacy skills, discover mathematical relationships and help them be young scientists.

Programs >>Family Engagement

We have a health and wellness policy that allows parents to learn about having healthy families.  Our lending library gives parents the opportunity to borrow materials that are relevant to building strong families.  We host Ready at Five Learning Parties which are built on the idea that learning can be fun.  Learning parties are interactive, hands on, parent/child "parties" that promote and enhance the school readiness skills of young children.  Learning parties promote positive parenting and enhance a parent's ability to be a young child's first teacher.  Kindred also offers Maryland Family network’s parent Cafés.  Parents cafés are created to help build strong families.  Families are welcomed to assist with field trips and special events that are given by Kindred Learning Center.

Programs >>Pre-K & Kindergarten

This program is a fully integrated curriculum with a strong focus on literacy, math, and science.  We begin our day with daily routines that are created for each investigation.  During opening Circle time, we sing songs and rhymes that make it easy for children to learn critical skills and concepts in fun-child centered activities.  Our everyday literacy focuses on activities that are critical for young children’s future reading success such as oral language development, phonological awareness, vocabulary, and alphabet knowledge.  We regularly address other important skills and concepts such as written expression, print awareness and motivation to read.  At the end of each day children engage in conversations with their classmates, do a shared reading and writing activity and learn different songs and rhymes.

Our Kindergarten program corresponds to the pre-k curriculum providing higher level activities and approaches that engage and challenge five- year olds.  The Kindergarten program is aligned with state and national kindergarten standards.
